On Monday, April 19, at 7 pm, in the auditorium, the musically gifted band students presented their much anticipated 2010 Spring Concert.
The line up consisted of Symphony Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, and Symphonic Band.
Throughout the night, the audience of more than 200 people were enveloped by the continuous musical tones. Not only was the audience pleased with the performance, but Josh Hartgrove, the band director, was, as well.
The groups performed pieces including “Chant and Joyous Dance” by Elliot Del Borgo, “Coriolanus Overture, Op. 62” by Ludwig van Beethoven, the traditional “County Clare” arranged by David Steinquest, “Ye Banks And Braes O’ Bonnie Doon” by Percy Aldridge Grainger, “Pageant” by Vincent Persichetti, “Imperatrix” by Alfred Reed, and “Deerpath Dances” by David R. Holsinger.
Junior Lauren Crider, a member of Wind Ensemble, said, “The concert went really well. It was more of a preparation for our State Festival that is next Wednesday, so it was nice to get a chance to perform before we faced the judges.”
Over the span of the school year, the hard work of the students is easily recognized within their performances.
Junior Sarah Amaro, a member of Symphonic Band said of the performance, “This concert season has been great! I’m really proud of how we’ve grown as a whole, and how we’ve learned to play ‘Music for Adults,’ as Mr. Hartgrove says. I think we really showed our improvement during Monday’s concert.”
Upcoming performances of the band program includes a Symphonic Band and Jazz Band Concert May 18, at 7 pm in the Auditorium.
